From the chart above shows that the
survey that was conducted to the 25 random people, majority of 80% people think
that the unemployment rate in Malaysia is high. The unemployment rate is high,
it means that many people are jobless and there is no increase in their income.
And the other 20% of the people think that it is not high. It might because of
they already have been hired for a job.
What is Unemployment ?
Unemployment are classified as persons that do not have a job, they have actively looked for work in the prior 4 weeks, and are currently available
for work but they are unable to find it. Actively looking for work may consist of
any of the following activities:
Contacting:
- An employer
directly or having a job interview
- A public or
private employment agency
- Friends or
relatives
- Sending out
resumes or filling out applications
- Placing or
answering advertisements
- Some other means
of active job search
Passive methods of job search do not have the potential to
result in a job offer and therefore do not qualify as active job search
methods.
“According to the
definition of the Malaysia Labour Force Survey (2011), the unemployed include
persons who were available for work but did not work during a reference period.
They could either be actively looking for work or not during the said period.”
Why
unemployment rate in Malaysia is high?
There are many factors
that causes high unemployment rate. A lot of high talented competitors are
searching for jobs in causing high employment. Too many people are graduated
with a higher education certificate therefore company will only hire graduates
who have graduated in overseas. Secondly, a high expectation of Malaysians that
is also the causes of unemployment. They only choose for a job if there is a
higher salary, a good environment of the office, a shorter working period.
Thirdly, the attitudes of graduates nowadays are just simply chosen for a
job to spend their time. But graduates are without any knowledge of the
job that they have chosen. Company has come across many requirements they
needed when they are hiring such as core knowledge and competency in the job
that the student applied, communication skills and general knowledge of the
graduates. Fourthly, the focus of higher education institutions and the needs
of the labour market for graduates are not as friendly as they were twenty
years ago. The labour market is now more competitive and volatile. They won’t
hire a person that does not quite meet the expectations of the industry.
Everyone would most probably choose to be employed. It is too negative to the Malaysia economy when the unemployment rate is high.

What is the effects of unemployment on our society?
Unemployment always effects individuals the hardest. The jobless lose their self respect, purpose and, most important, income. It is not just the individuals themselves that are effect, their families will suffer with them also. To compound the problems, the longer a person is unemployed the harder it becomes to find a job. It is because the unemployed is not able to put their skills to use. And in this situation where it goes on for too long the unemployment Malaysians may have to lose some of their skills. Therefore, The long term unemployed can really suffer as employers are unwilling to take a chance to accept them as a member of their company.
Unemployment could also result to increased illegal activities like drug dealing. It may also lead to higher crime rate like robberies, theft and murder. Unemployment has a big and major effect on the society that it brings with unhappiness, disappointed and sadness. It leads to a number of divorces and suicidal cases since people cannot find a job to settle their financial problems. It increased crime and violence to our society as people try all ways to earn a source of living.
Unemployment will also brings up complaint and dissatisfied among the tax paying citizens. In order to meet the demands of the unemployment fund the government many a times may have to increase the taxes, thus giving way to restlessness among the tax paying citizens.

From the
survey that have collected back, 60% of people thinks that the main cause of
high unemployment rate in Malaysia is that graduates are asking for unrealistic
salary or benefits. Malaysians choose their job strictly. They only want to be
hired when conditions given from the company are good and fulfilled their
expectations. Whereas 20% of people think that companies only want to hire
those people with higher qualification, the other 12% thinks that graduates are
lack of working experience and skills and the remaining 8% goes to others kind of
reason. The impact on the highest percentage of the main cause of high
unemployment rate which is Malaysians wants to choose for a better working
requirements is that it will leads them to become jobless because in today’s
society is really hard to find a higher salary and less working time’s
job.
“Majority
of graduates who applies for a job tend to have these criteria whereby they
also request a higher salary for the position (Yuh Ying, 2013).” The thinking
of graduates is too naive and unrealistic. They thought that what they want or
what they need, they will definitely get it.
Reasons why graduates
expect unrealistic salary?
"Knowledge is only potential power. It becomes power only
when, and if, it is organized into definite plans of action, and directed to a
definite end (Hill, 2012).” Graduates think that they have graduated their
higher education then they can choose for jobs that match with their
expectations. Everything that they want will come easily; hence they didn't
know that they are actually wrong. Things will only come when they make effort
to do it. Therefore, if they still behave like this, it will be really hard for
them to get for a job, thus unemployment rate will just continue
increasing.
Graduates should react to the change of society by stop thinking to choose for jobs that will gain those unrealistic salary or benefits. The best way is to accept any jobs although it does not match with their expectations.

Scenarios where unemployment rate is high are
willing to accept any condition of jobs, migrate to other country, further
studies at a higher level or others.
20%
of people are willing to accept any condition of jobs if they are unemployed.
This is because if they become choosey when it comes to searching for jobs then
they won’t get a job. This is due to requirements that the employers seek for
when choosing their worker. A job seeker requires particular skills,
experience or qualifications in order for them to get a place in a company.
Those who are unemployed also are required to accept suitable work to the level
of their capacity. They are also willing to accept any condition of job is
because this is to provide basic necessities for themselves and also to
maintain a sense of self-worth.
16%
are those who will prefer to migrate to other country if they are unemployed.
This is because they think there are better opportunities for them to get a job
that fits them in other countries. They also think that they will be able to
support their daily needs. Millions of families have been pushed to the
edge of economic desperation and millions of families are drowning in debt,
therefore they decide to migrate to other country. However, it is extremely
risky to move somewhere new without having a job first. But rather than just
sit there and sink even deeper into desperation, an increasing number of
Malaysians are deciding to make a move. There are some areas in Malaysia
that have become absolute high unemployment rate such as Kuala Lumpur.
After years of experiencing intense economic frustration because of the high
unemployment rate, Malaysians are picking up stakes and are heading for greener
pastures by moving to other country.
Other than that 44%
of people are further studies at a higher level. They have to further their
studies at a higher level such as degree, master or even PHD level in order to
be qualified for a job due to higher qualification is needed for the job. They
also further studies at a higher level because of they don’t want to face the
unemployment problem in society so they decide to further their studies. And
the other 20% will goes to other choices.
From the survey for this question, more than half
of the people disagreed with this statement and just 4% of people agreed with
this statement which means that out of 25 peoples only 1 people is agree that
Malaysia government is putting an effort to solve this problem. The impact for
the bad response to the government’s action is the people’s impression towards
the government has become progressively worse.
The caused that might lead to the factors of the
public from thinking that this problem happened because of the government’s
business plan might not be effective enough in creating a big change in the
unemployment rate.
Even though this might sound inappropriate to the
government but still, there are many advantages when the public’s opinion of
the government has become progressively worse. As we can see from the chart, if
the government in Malaysia is aware of this, they can work harder and come out
with some better plans that absolutely will help the economy in Malaysia. They
can even ask for the public’s opinion as the government heard a lot of
complains. The bad part is, there are more disadvantages for example the
people’s trust in the government is decreasing and they will question the true
intentions and how potential the government is at the same time. The next
disadvantage is the investors will not invest in Malaysia because they have no
confident to do so. They could not believe that the government could maintain a
favorable economy in Malaysia which is needed for investing. The last
disadvantage is it will become harder for Malaysia to borrow money from other
countries if needed because they are afraid that the government in Malaysia
might not be able to repay the loan or even declare bankrupt before they pay
back.
The conclusion for my analysis based on this
chart, it is obvious that the Malaysian government would prefer if they look
good to the citizen and other countries as well as it brings benefits and will
therefore try hard to make themselves to look better by putting forth new plans.
Based on
this chart, the main thing government should do to reduce the unemployment rate
is cut taxes which is 52%. The second highest from this chart is 20% which is
government should create more job vacancy to reduce the unemployment rate among
Malaysian citizens such as investing in new technologies to manufacture new
goods. Furthermore, government also should subsidize business investment among
Malaysian’s investors to decrease the unemployment rate in Malaysia which is
16%. There are many ways except from this chart that the government should do
besides create more job vacancy, cut taxes and subsidize business investment.
As we can see the chart, the highest percentage is 52% that the
government should cut taxes especially to Malaysian citizens. And then hope and
pray the consumer then will use those tax cuts to spend, thereby giving private
business more to do and making them hire new people. Companies can further
expand their business including hiring new staff with the lower taxes. The
problem with tax cuts though, can be that people choose not to spend the extra
money they get, but saving them or using them to pay of loans, which does not
give any new jobs. This could reduce the unemployment rate in our country.
Government should lower taxes which causes the companies to downsize and
doesn't stimulate growth. It will create job in the future and does promote
higher unemployment.
To would
make our country a magnet for corporations worldwide is by zeroing out the tax
by the government. From this, the unemployment rate in Malaysia will reduce by
the Malaysian government.
