Methodology



From our latest research and study in August 2013, the Malaysia Unemployment Rate was increased from 3% in July to 3.1% in August of 2013. Our research data came from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (2013) themselves. In Malaysia, the unemployment rate measures the number of people actively looking for a job as a percentage of the labour force.





How to calculate unemployment rate?

     Unemployment rate =  Unemployment  x 100%
        in August 2013             Labour force
                                     =  441.8 / 1411.3 x 100% 
                                     = 3.1%

The main objective of this survey is to find out more about public’s understanding about unemployment rate in Malaysia. Firstly, 5 main questions survey on the unemployment rate in Malaysia are prepared among all members after doing tons of research on the internet and newspaper in order to find out the main problem from this issue that is currently most Malaysians are facing when talking about unemployment rate in Malaysia. The main reason of doing research before the questions has been created so that the information obtained from the survey would be beneficial and helpful to access the main problem. Secondly, questionnaires were given out to public citizen age from 20 and above, 30 and above and also 40 and above in order to get different information, opinions, perspective and more accurate figures from different range of age. The questions in the survey are covered with different types of questions such as open ended, and liker-scale close ended questions that provide better accuracy on the different aspects that should be solved in each question.

Questions of survey include:
Do you think the unemployment rate in Malaysia is high?
What do you think is the main cause of high unemployment rate in Malaysia?
What would you do if the unemployment rate is high?
Do you think the government is putting effort to solve this problem in our country?
What should government do to decrease the unemployment rate?



The survey was conducted at a few places such as Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus and also Sunway Pyramid. Such places are chosen to conduct this survey is because a larger number of people can be reached. Getting information from newspapers, magazines and also online materials such as articles and forums are being done besides surveys to understand more about unemployment rate.  This methodology is very reliable because this survey was conducted only consists of graduates or people that are going to graduate and are going to face this situation of unemployment very soon. Assuming their answers to the questionnaires are truthful. It is also assumed that the research from the specific resources that is being carried out is correct and accurate. The majority voice from the citizen are collected from the information and data obtained from the surveys and are processed in a form of statistic graph and charts to illustrate the overall response from this surveys. In addition, Most of the Malaysians included us would prefer to study in overseas like Australia and England. Because it provides them opportunities to experience another culture, meet different people, study from new angles, enhance their career prospects, increase their foreign language skills and more. Most important, as a Malaysian, it is easier for us to look for a job if we have graduated from overseas.

  1. You need to use secondary data to plot the graph of unemployment rate. In addition, you didnt not mention, which country you prefer to study?
